Understanding chronic care MBS items for allied health

Do you provide allied health services under the MBS? Some practitioners may not be aware of changes introduced in 2025 to chronic condition management arrangements.

Chronic care is now supported through a GP Chronic Care Management Plan. To access allied health services under these arrangements, the referring medical practitioner must provide a valid referral letter.

If you're unsure how many allied health sessions a client has remaining under the MBS (five sessions per calendar year, or up to 10 for eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), use the MBS Items Online Checker to support treatment planning and billing.
