EOI: surgical masks

Winter always sees an increase in respiratory viruses like COVID-19, RSV and Influenza. Face masks help stop viruses from spreading through the air, so you are less likely to catch or spread them. When you wear a face mask, you protect yourself and others from respiratory viruses like COVID-19, influenza and RSV.

People who have cold or flu-like symptoms should be encouraged to wear a mask if they need to leave home, especially if they are going to be around people at higher risk of illness.

GP practices often have people that are at higher risk of severe illness in their waiting rooms, and are encouraging people with cold and flu like symptoms to wear a mask in the practice to protect those people, as well as their staff.

MPHN have been able to acquire a small number of surgical masks for distribution to practices over the next few weeks to help stop the spread of COVID-19, flu and RSV.

If your practice is seeing an increase in respiratory illnesses and would like a small, limited supply of surgical masks, please reach out to your Primary Care Engagement Officer or the MPHN COVID-19 Support Officer who can supply you with five boxes of surgical masks for your patients to use while in the practice.
