Management of type 2 diabetes: updated handbook

The RACGP will launch the newly updated Management of Type 2 Diabetes: A Handbook for General Practice on 14 November, in alignment with World Diabetes Day.

The handbook is a valuable resource for GPs and primary healthcare providers, including practice nurses, diabetes educators, and allied health professionals.

Developed in collaboration with Diabetes Australia, this comprehensive guide provides the latest evidence and practical advice to enhance the quality of care for patients with type 2 diabetes.

The latest update contains new sections on:  

  • remission of type 2 diabetes 

  • weight management interventions for type 2 diabetes 

  • sleep and diabetes 

  • disability, dementia, cognitive decline and hearing impairment 

There are also significant updates to existing sections, including:    

  • early onset type 2 diabetes 

  • medical management of glycaemia 

  • use of technology in type 2 diabetes management  

  • type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk 

  • diabetes-related eye disease 

  • diabetes-related chronic kidney disease 

  • type 2 diabetes and mental health  

  • managing risks and other impacts of type 2 diabetes
