Protect against Japanese Encephalitis
Recent mosquito surveillance has detected the presence of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in the Griffith region of New South Wales, prompting increased demand for vaccination.
General practitioners are encouraged to:
Offer the JEV vaccine to patients who have not yet received it.
Familiarise themselves with updated vaccine training, including administration for children.
Vaccine availability
Two JEV vaccines are available and eligibility for free vaccination includes all NSW residents living in high-risk regional areas.
Further information
Details on free JE vaccine eligibility are available on the NSW Health website.
Please ensure your practice is prepared to meet the increased demand and provide timely vaccination services to eligible patients.
