ADHD reforms: GPs to support medication resupply from September
From September 2025, GPs in NSW will be able to resupply ADHD medication to patients as part of the first phase of ADHD care reforms announced by the NSW Government.
These changes aim to improve access to ADHD treatment by reducing costs and wait times, especially for families who currently face barriers to care.
To support the rollout, GPs are invited to express their interest in completing the required (government-funded) training via an EOI form on the NSW Health website.
Once training is complete, GPs will be able to manage ongoing prescriptions without needing a formal arrangement with a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
The initial rollout will prioritise children on stable doses of medication to ensure timely, consistent access to care.
Further training to enable GPs to diagnose and initiate ADHD treatment is expected to follow later in 2025.
