NSW Health enables transfer of children’s flu vaccine stock between providers

As of 20 July 2026, NSW Health has depleted its supply of NIP-funded Vaxigrip influenza vaccine for children aged 6 months to under 5 years. However, many immunisation providers may still have available stock on hand that can continue to be administered.

To help maximise vaccine availability, NSW Health has implemented a one-off special licence allowing the transfer of NIP-funded Vaxigrip vaccine between general practices, community pharmacies, Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS), and NSW Health facilities.

Providers with surplus Vaxigrip stock that is unlikely to be used this influenza season are encouraged to liaise with local providers to arrange transfer of doses where there is capacity and willingness to administer the vaccine.

All vaccine storage and transportation must comply with the cold chain requirements outlined in the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines: Strive for 5.

A limited supply of the NSW-funded FluMist® nasal spray influenza vaccine remains available through the State Vaccine Centre for ordering by GPs and AMS services. FluMist is available for eligible individuals aged 2 to 17 years, and providers are asked to order only small quantities as required.
