Medical Practice Assisting qualification for non-clinical staff
With increasing workforce pressures in general practice, upskilling nonclinical staff through the Medical Practice Assisting (MPA)(HLT47715) course may be a good opportunity.
Non-clinical staff who are certified as Medical Practice Assistants can carry out a range of delegated supervised and unsupervised tasks including coordinating patient care, maintaining patient records, through to conducting preliminary patient assessment, preparing examination rooms, and assisting healthcare providers during medical procedures.
An impact assessment of MPA’s in general practice reported MPAs had an increase in work satisfaction and greater confidence in performing a range of clinical skills. Clinical staff reported less stress, more efficient patient management and reduced workloads.
Practices can also avoid hiring casual replacement staff by using MPAs for clinical tasks during busy or absent periods. Practices have the potential for increased revenue with higher volume patient throughput with an average of over $100,000 generated income per year for each practice with an MPA.
Medical Practice Assisting Training is estimated to be up to 15 hours per week for a period up to 2 years.
