Accreditation practice pointer: clinical results

GP2.2 A Pathology results, imaging reports, investigation reports, and clinical correspondence

RACGP Standards for general practice.

It is essential that general practice has a clear process for reviewing and managing clinical results received. GPs need to review pathology results, imaging reports, investigation reports, and clinical correspondence, and then act upon the information in a timely manner. Some results might be initiated by other clinicians supporting the patient. Patient health records must also include details of a GP’s review of pathology results.

Practices might further support the process by having a policy and/or documented procedures for reviewing and managing results.
