Accreditation practice pointer: our facilities are fit for purpose

GP5.1 A Our practice’s facilities are fit for purpose.

RACGP Standards for general practice

General practice must provide appropriate facilities to ensure optimum patient care and safety. Likewise, the facilities must allow practice team members to consult safely and effectively.

The practice design and layout must provide privacy, security, consultation space and accessible facilities such as toilets and hand-cleaning facilities.

The reception team needs a clear view of all waiting areas so all patients can be monitored. The practice waiting areas and consultation rooms must also be kept at a comfortable temperature.

Practices might also incorporate the cultural requirements of their patients in the waiting room.
