Benefits of General Practice Accreditation
Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network encourages all general practices to gain accreditation against the National General Practice Accreditation Scheme. General practices that are accredited benefit from funding and support not otherwise provided.
The Practice Incentive Program (PIP) supports Accredited general practices through payment for engaging in quality improvement programs based on data collected. The PIP has these seven incentives: After Hours; eHealth; Indigenous Health; Procedural General Practitioner Payment; Quality Improvement; Rural Loading and Teaching. These payments are made to general practice and to health professionals. For more information abut the PIP visit: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/apply-for-practice-incentives-program?context=20
MyMedicare is available for Accredited practices. The program aims to formalise the relationship between general practices and their patients. More information about MyMedicare is available here: https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/mymedicare/practices-and-providers
MyMedicare practices also benefit through:
the new longer telehealth items linked to MyMedicare, including:
longer MBS-funded telephone calls (Levels C and D) with their usual general practice
triple bulk billing incentive for longer MBS telehealth consultations (Levels C, D and E) for children under 16, pensioners, and concession card holders.
the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive which supports regular health assessments, care plans and regular GP visits for people in residential aged care homes
Chronic Condition Management items linked to a patient’s registration in MyMedicare from 1 July 2025, to support continuity of care for people with chronic and complex conditions. Patients who are not registered in MyMedicare will still be able to receive Chronic Condition Management items from their usual GP.
