Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) in partnership with Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is working to improve access to health care services where disparities have been identified for mothers and their young children across the Murrumbidgee region.

MPHN CEO Melissa Neal said after conducting a recent health needs assessment it was identified that an overarching strategy was needed to ensure current services were well coordinated and to better identify areas of unmet need.

Beacon Strategies has been engaged to develop a regional strategy for communities across the Murrumbidgee, building on services currently being delivered to improve the client journey, resulting in better outcomes.

“This strategy will guide MPHN and MLHD and other stakeholders to work on a comprehensive and coordinated approach to maternal and child health, focusing on the critical development milestones,” Ms Neal said.

MLHD CE Jill Ludford said they were looking forward to receiving the strategy in the coming months as it will assist in the coordinated approach to the delivery of services to meet the needs of women, children and their families.

Beacon Strategies will be holding stakeholder and consumer consultations in Young, Deniliquin, Wagga Wagga and Griffith to help capture information that will assist in the development of the strategy.

“We encourage local women and families to help inform us about areas where we can improve services to help meet their needs,” Ms Ludford said.
