NSW Youth Week activities underway across the Murrumbidgee

Murrumbidgee PHN (MPHN) in partnership with the Australian Government has been delivering the Empowering our Communities (EOC) initiative across the Murrumbidgee region for the past two years, supporting rural communities as they deal with the uncertainty, stress and anxiety of drought.

This includes funding for local government councils within the Murrumbidgee region to deliver wellbeing activities as part of Youth Week in 2021.

MPHN Senior Manager Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Anita McRae said the funding is designed to ensure rural communities and councils are supported to provide events and resources that focus on the needs of young people.

“The EOC funding will help to facilitate activities that foster mental health, wellbeing and resilience for drought impacted communities. This funding will be crucial in supporting activities for young people who have experienced unique and significant impacts as a result of the prolonged drought.”

The theme for NSW Youth Week 2021 is ‘together more than ever’ and will run from April 16 to April 24.

Activities planned will include community health and wellbeing events, workshops promoting resilience, community education sessions and motivational speakers.

$108,015.00 total in funding was allocated to 11 Murrumbidgee local government areas and Riverina Joint Organisation.
