Phase 2a COVID-19 vaccinations commencing this week

From today, Monday, 3 May 2021 anyone over the age of 50 is eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccine from one of five vaccination hubs in the Murrumbidgee region under the National Covid-19 Vaccination Rollout.

Vaccination hubs in Wagga Wagga, Young, Gundagai, Griffith and Deniliquin will be able to vaccinate people in the Phase 2a cohort over the age of 50.

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network’s (MPHN) Acting CEO Julie Redway said vaccination hubs remain a critical part of the national rollout.

“With our region’s vaccination hubs now able to vaccinate anyone from Phase 1a and 1b cohorts, and those eligible over the age of 50 years in the 2a cohort, more people in our community can be vaccinated against the virus,” Ms Redway said.

“People in the Phase 1a and 1b groups will continue to be prioritised and vaccination for those aged 50 to 69 years in the Phase 2a population will only occur where demand and supply allow.”  

GP and Principal of the Wagga Wagga Vaccination Hub Associate Professor Ayman Shenouda said the vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your family.

“The COVID-19 vaccine will strengthen your immune system by training your body to fight against the virus that causes COVID-19,” A/Prof Shenouda said.

“The currently available vaccines are safe, effective and free and I would encourage people aged over 50 years to book an appointment at one of the region’s vaccination hubs as soon as possible. Please also remember, those eligible under Phase 1a and 1b cohorts can receive their vaccination at any time.”
