National Reconciliation Week provides an opportunity to reflect and learn
MPHN staff have marked the beginning of National Reconciliation Week with a workshop, led by former MPHN board member Associate Professor Faye McMillan focusing on the development of the MPHN Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Associate Professor McMillan encouraged MPHN staff to authentically and honestly examine their ideas about reconciliation and MPHNs sovereign relationships with First Nations people.
“Developing a reconciliation action plan is only the beginning of MPHNs journey towards fostering more meaningful and beneficial relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the region that you serve and represent,” Associate Professor McMillan said.
“MPHN has a wonderful opportunity to create a RAP that presents an inclusive and thoughtful vision for reconciliation and charts an actionable course forward on how the organisation and the individuals that represent it can contribute to positive change.”
Acting CEO Julie Redway said MPHN is committed to reconciliation and the development of a RAP is more than just a document.
“The development of an MPHN RAP will provide the organisation with a clear and genuine plan to guide our activities towards meaningful reconciliation and deeper understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living across the Murrumbidgee,” Ms Redway said.
