Out of hours GP available during holiday period

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) is reminding people access to the Wagga Wagga GP After Hours Service (WGPAHS) for medical treatment outside business hours will continue over the holiday period.

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network CEO Melissa Neal said the after hours service is an important and valuable resource for people in the community who need urgent care when their regular GP is closed.

“The Wagga GP After Hours Service is staffed by committed local GPs who provide high quality patient care when their regular surgery is closed,” Ms Neal said.

“During the holiday period it’s important people are aware if they are unwell they should continue to see a medical professional for treatment, even outside of normal business hours or on public holidays.”

Glenrock Country Practice GP and Chair of the WGPAHS Management Committee, Associate Professor Ayman Shenouda, said access to the WGPAHS also helps reduce the pressure on the emergency department at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

“The Wagga GP After Hours service offers non-life threatening urgent medical treatment for patients who cannot wait to see their regular GP during periods when general practices are closed or unavailable,” Associate Professor Shenouda said.

“Those patients who cannot manage their conditions at home or who are concerned about symptoms should not hesitate to make an appointment.”
