Homelessness Week Expo: food, services and health checks for locals in need

Locals experiencing food insecurity or homelessness will have access to fresh food, health care services, and local community support resources at the upcoming Homelessness Week Expo in Wagga Wagga.

The expo is on Thursday 8 August 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm at the Riverside car park off Johnson Street, Wagga Wagga. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags.

The Homelessness Week Expo is an initiative of the Triple H Forum, organised by Wagga Wagga City Council and supported by Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) as part of their ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of the Murrumbidgee community. MPHN will also be onsite offering free health checks and vaccinations.

MPHN’s Clinical Programs and Emergency Response Manager Peta Anderson said the Homelessness Week Expo will help bring services directly to the people who need them most.

‘By offering food relief and free health services as well as access to a range of local community support services, we hope to alleviate some of the immediate pressures faced by people and families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity,’ Ms Anderson said.

‘One of our primary goals at Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network is to support our local communities. Through collaborating with Wagga Wagga City Council and the Triple H Forum, we’re aiming to help people access essential resources during these challenging times.’

The theme for Homelessness Week 2024 is ‘Homelessness Action Now,’ reflecting a collective call to address and take action against homelessness. In 2024, Homelessness Week will be held from Monday 5 August to Sunday 11 August.

The expo follows the success of the two well-attended Foodbank pop ups in Wagga Wagga last year.
