Celebrating Primary Health Care Nurses Day

Nicola and Jess from Hammond Health.

Today, on Primary Health Care Nurses Day, (held on the first Wednesday of February each year), we recognise the important contribution nurses make across primary health care settings, including general practice, aged care, community health, schools, custodial environments and other community‑based services.

Across the Murrumbidgee region, primary care nurses are working in general practices, supporting prevention, early intervention and ongoing care for people and their families. Their work helps ensure people receive timely, accessible support close to home, strengthening the overall responsiveness of our primary health care system.

MPHN acknowledges the capability, professionalism and commitment these nurses bring to their roles every day. Whether they are delivering chronic disease support, conducting assessments, providing health education or coordinating care, their contribution is central to high‑quality, community‑based health services.

MPHN Interim Chief Executive Officer Narelle Mills said primary health care nurses are at the centre of community wellbeing.

“Every day, nurses bring skill, empathy and genuine commitment to the people they care for,” Ms Mills said.

“Their work strengthens our communities, supports better health outcomes and makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives. We’re grateful for the difference they make across the Murrumbidgee and today is a wonderful opportunity to recognise their dedication.”
