Experienced rural clinician Dr Rachel James joins MPHN Board

Welcoming Deniliquin‑based rural generalist Dr Rachel James to the MPHN Board.

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) is pleased to announce that following a competitive process, Dr Rachel James has been appointed to its Board, commencing Monday 27 April 2026.

Dr James is a Rural Generalist Obstetrician based in Deniliquin, with ten years’ experience working and training across the Murrumbidgee region. She works across general practice, hospital inpatient care, and maternity services, and is actively involved in clinical leadership, training, and workforce development.

MPHN Board Chair Associate Professor Alam Yoosuff said Dr James’s appointment would strengthen the Board’s connection to frontline primary care and regional communities.

“Dr James brings extensive experience across general practice, maternity care and rural workforce training, as well as a deep understanding of healthcare delivery in the Murrumbidgee,” Associate Professor Yoosuff said. “Her practical insight and strong leadership background will be a valuable addition to the Board.”

Dr James has worked closely with MPHN through a range of clinical councils and committees, including roles supporting antenatal shared care, paediatrics in primary care and workforce planning. She has also held senior training and leadership roles with the NSW Rural Generalist Training Coordination Unit.

Dr James said she was pleased to join the MPHN Board and contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction.

“I have worked and trained in the Murrumbidgee for more than a decade, and Deniliquin has become home,” Dr James said. “Over that time, I’ve seen the healthcare system from many perspectives, from working in hospital and general practice to experiencing the system as a patient myself. That lived experience drives my strong commitment to improving access, equity, and care for our regional communities.”

Dr James’s appointment reflects MPHN’s commitment to effective governance and to ensuring regional insight and primary care experience continues to inform its direction.
