Expanded mental health support for young people and families in Wagga Wagga

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) welcomes the Australian Government's announcement that headspace Wagga Wagga will become one of the first 10 headspace centres nationally to deliver the headspace Plus Model of Care, as part of a staged rollout to 30 centres across Australia over the next three years. 

Implementation of the model at headspace Wagga Wagga is expected to be completed within the next 12 months. 

Commissioned by MPHN, headspace Wagga Wagga provides mental health and wellbeing support for young people aged 12 to 25 years of age. With this funding, young people and families connecting with headspace Wagga Wagga will receive more holistic and integrated support across mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and vocational services.  

MPHN CEO Narelle Mills said the investment was a significant boost for the region.  

"headspace Wagga Wagga plays a vital role supporting the mental health and wellbeing of local young people," Ms Mills said.  

"The headspace Plus Model of Care is designed to help young people access support earlier, with welcoming and flexible pathways that make it easier to reach out, engage with services and return for support when needed. 

"MPHN is proud to commission headspace Wagga Wagga, and we welcome this additional Australian Government investment in youth mental health services in the Murrumbidgee."
