Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) is a national database that records all vaccines given to people of all ages in Australia. Managed by Services Australia, the AIR plays a vital role in helping individuals, healthcare providers, and public health authorities keep track of immunisation coverage and ensure the community remains protected against vaccine-preventable diseases.
What does the AIR include?
The AIR records:
Childhood immunisations on the National Immunisation Program (NIP)
School-based vaccinations
COVID-19 vaccinations
Influenza (flu) vaccinations
Travel vaccines
Any other vaccines administered in Australia, regardless of the patient's age or Medicare status
Why is the AIR important?
Having a single, reliable source of immunisation history offers several benefits:
For individuals: It provides a complete immunisation history that can be accessed via Medicare Online, the Express Plus Medicare app, or My Health Record.
For providers: It supports clinical decision-making by showing which vaccines a patient has received and what’s due or overdue.
For public health: It helps track immunisation rates across different communities, supporting outbreak prevention and vaccination campaigns.
Who can access AIR information?
Healthcare providers, vaccination clinics, and individuals (or their parents/guardians) can access immunisation records through Medicare-linked services. Employers and schools may also request immunisation information with appropriate consent.
Keeping AIR records up to date
It’s essential that all immunisation providers report vaccines to the AIR as soon as possible after administration. This includes privately purchased vaccines and those given outside of the NIP.
You can submit immunisation records to the AIR using:
Practice management software integrated with AIR
The AIR site via PRODA
AIR’s Secure File Transfer option
