LGBTQ+ Death, Loss and Grief
Developed by ACON in partnership with Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network, this resource provides inclusive, practical information for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV who are experiencing death, loss and grief. It explains the many ways grief can affect emotions, thoughts, behaviour and physical wellbeing, while recognising that stigma, prejudice, past trauma, exclusion from funeral arrangements and the misgendering of loved ones can make grief more complex.
The resource also acknowledges the cultural significance of Sad News and Sorry Business for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including the experiences of rainbow mob, Sistergirls, Brotherboys and trans mob. It encourages people to care for themselves, honour their loss and draw on chosen family, community, mob and trusted support services, with contact details for specialist grief, LGBTQ+, First Nations and suicide bereavement supports.
