Wagga Wagga announced as one of 30 Australian sites to be upgraded to headspace Plus
A visit from Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Emma McBride in July 2025 brought welcome news for young people across the Murrumbidgee.
Minister McBride visited the newly expanded headspace Wagga Wagga centre to announce it would become one of 30 sites nationally upgraded to headspace Plus, providing more comprehensive support for young people with complex mental health needs.
The enhanced model includes coordinated care, multidisciplinary teams and greater integration with other services, strengthening local support and helping young people access care closer to home.
The announcement coincided with the opening of headspace Wagga Wagga’s expanded Peter Street centre, providing comprehensive support for young people’s mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drug use, and work and study needs. The service is commissioned by MPHN and operated by Relationships Australia.
Former MPHN CEO Stewart Gordon welcomed the additional investment: “It’s absolutely delightful to hear of the additional investment coming to headspace in Wagga, and we know it’s going to make such a difference to the young people in our community.”
