Extending care through the flu season

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) supported general practices to increase access to care during the 2026 flu season.

Through the After Hours Flu Season Grants, practices and Aboriginal Medical Services received funding to extend existing after-hours services or introduce additional after-hours consultations during May and June. Practices provided up to five additional GP consulting hours each week, helping patients whose health needs could not wait until regular services were next available.

The initiative aimed to keep patients well in the community and reduce non-urgent presentations to hospital emergency departments, while improving equitable access to primary care after hours. Funding was targeted to achieve geographic spread across the Murrumbidgee, with consideration given to communities where other after-hours options were limited.
