Preparing practices for flu season
General practices and immunisation providers supported ahead of the 2026 influenza season
Updated resources shared with Murrumbidgee immunisation providers to help protect people from serious illness and reduce pressure on health services
Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged six months and over, unless contraindicated, with free vaccines are available through the National Immunisation Program for people at higher risk.
With influenza vaccination advice updated each year, ensuring providers have timely access to current clinical information is an important part of supporting safe and effective immunisation.
Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) supported local providers during the 2026 influenza season by bringing together clinical guidance, program information, consumer resources and education materials, including information on seasonal influenza vaccine options and eligibility for the live attenuated influenza vaccine.
Resources from organisations such as the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance and the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing were collated to help providers make informed vaccination recommendations and communicate effectively with patients.
Practices were encouraged to begin conversations about influenza vaccination early, particularly with people at greater risk of severe illness.
By helping providers stay informed and supporting timely vaccination, MPHN is strengthening preventive healthcare across the Murrumbidgee – helping reduce influenza-related complications and hospitalisations and easing seasonal pressure on primary care and hospital services.
