In 2025–2026, Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) brought health, preparedness and emergency information together through Murrumbidgee Summer Smart.
The campaign is designed to help communities and health services prepare for the dangerous health conditions brought about by extreme heat, bushfires, smoke, storms and floods.
It translated complex health and emergency advice into three simple messages: be prepared, stay informed and know your options. A dedicated webpage and social media campaign provided practical advice on extreme heat and smoke, emergency planning, trusted warning services and healthcare options. Content was adapted as conditions changed, including during heatwaves and bushfires.
Summer Smart also supported general practice and other primary care providers with resources to identify and proactively support higher-risk patients, prepare facilities for extreme heat and respond to emergencies and service disruptions.
By connecting community preparedness, primary care and regional emergency partners, Summer Smart created a coordinated approach that can be updated and reused each summer.
