As immunisation recommendations, emerging diseases, and community health needs continue to evolve, maintaining current immunisation knowledge is essential for delivering safe, high-quality care.
To support this, Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) delivered face-to-face and online Nurse Immunisation Updates in 2026, helping nurses across the region strengthen their knowledge, skills, and confidence.
The face-to-face event in Wagga Wagga in March brought together 95 nurses from across the Murrumbidgee, with speakers from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance, Public Health Unit, Murrumbidgee Local Health District and MPHN.
Sessions covered practical issues including cold chain management, catch-up vaccinations, vaccination during pregnancy, adolescent immunisation trends and updates to the Australian Immunisation Handbook. Participants also received information about the 2026 winter respiratory season, including influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination.
An online update in May extended access to health professionals unable to attend in person and provided another opportunity to refresh their knowledge.
MPHN's Clinical Programs Manager, Erin Godwin, said the response demonstrated the value of providing accessible, practical education for the region's primary care workforce.
"Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect our communities from preventable diseases. By keeping nurses informed and up to date, we are strengthening confidence in immunisation and improving health outcomes across the Murrumbidgee."
The series complements our broader immunisation quality improvement support, which provides general practices with practical resources to better use their data, strengthen recall and reminder systems and improve timely vaccination.
Together, these initiatives are helping build workforce capability while supporting stronger immunisation outcomes across Murrumbidgee communities.
