Call for Expressions of Interest

Summary

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners NSW & ACT Faculty seeks expressions of interest in joining a Project ECHO community of practice focusing on the prescribing and management of patients participating in NSW Health opioid treatment programs (OTP) including chronic health needs.

Aim

Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is an evidence-based model that places healthcare providers from diverse settings in direct contact with subject matter experts, empowering them to provide best-practice care for their local communities.

This is an opportunity for participants to come together online to develop their skills and present their clinical cases on opioid treatment and receive specialist feedback.

Details of the session:

  • Reviewing Performance CPD hours.

  • Provides clinicians with access to subject matter experts and a network of peers.

  • Online interactive learning.

  • Closed group learning to create a safe space that allows participants to discuss and build trust in each other.

  • No cost to join; participate from your preferred location.

  • An hour session, once every month for 12 months.

The sessions will consist of a brief didactic presentation from a set curriculum designed in consultation with participants, followed by a participant-led case presentation with facilitated discussion and participant and panel recommendations.

Following sessions, a brief written summary of the presented case with treatment recommendations is provided to participants, along with links to evidence-based resources.

Learning objectives

  • Improve GP engagement, capacity and confidence to apply an evidence-based approach to managing patients participating in NSW Health Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)

  • Develop a virtual network to share OTP prescribing care knowledge and experiences and promote confidence in GPs

  • Improve local access to OTP prescribing options for people in their communities
