New acute coronary syndromes guideline

The new Australian clinical guideline for diagnosing and managing acute coronary syndromes 2025 is here.

The updated Australian ACS guidelines 2025 are now available at: ACS Guideline 2025 | National Heart Foundation of Australia & Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand

Bringing together clinical experts and people with lived experience, the guideline establishes a new clinical standard for heart attack and angina diagnosis and management in Australia.

For someone having a heart attack, every minute counts. The new guideline will help ensure people having a heart attack can be diagnosed and treated as quickly, safely and accurately as possible.

The new guideline also includes updated guidance for healthcare professionals on:

  • best possible timing of heart attack treatments to improve a person’s chance of survival and quality of life

  • how to manage specific types of heart attack (e.g. spontaneous coronary artery dissection, SCAD) and serious complications

  • best practice care after discharge from hospital, including referral for cardiac rehabilitation and mental health support (as required), for better health and quality of life.
