New Medicare mental health campaign launching soon
A national campaign promoting the Medicare Mental Health Phone Service (1800 595 212) will launch in late August, aiming to boost community awareness and encourage earlier help-seeking for people experiencing mental distress.
The campaign will run across national media channels and be supported by local Primary Health Network (PHN) promotion. Messaging is designed to encourage people to reach out for support before reaching crisis point.
As a result, GPs and practice teams may see an increase in patients requesting mental health support and referrals, particularly throughout September and October. This early notice is being shared to help you consider any implications for appointment availability, care planning or referral pathways.
Further information and campaign materials will be provided in the lead-up to the launch.
Thank you for the vital role you play in connecting our communities with timely, person-centred mental health care.
