Accreditation practice pointer: our practice supports the safety, health, and wellbeing of the practice team

C3.5 A Our practice supports the safety, health, and wellbeing of the practice team.

RACGP Standards for general practice

General practices must be safe working environments. This means that practice management must adhere to the work, health and safety (WHS) laws relevant to the practice location.

New employees must be advised of WHS requirements during their induction.

The practice can also support the health, safety, and wellbeing of the practice team by:

  • maintaining a WHS policy and procedure

  • maintaining a policy and procedure manual that includes WHS requirements

  • developing and adhering to appropriate practice staff rosters

  • including WHS as a standing agenda item on team meetings

  • maintaining an appointment book that shows scheduled breaks

  • creating appropriate design and layouts for the practice’s building, workstations and desks

  • providing the practice team with access to support services.
