Lead contractor announced for Better. Together. mental health program

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) has appointed Wellways Australia as the lead contractor for the Better. Together. program, a new multidisciplinary mental health initiative designed to support people living with severe and complex mental health needs across the Murrumbidgee region.

The Australian Government-funded program will deliver integrated and holistic mental health care through general practices, building on MPHN’s earlier mental health nurse-led multidisciplinary services.

MPHN CEO Narelle Mills said the appointment of Wellways was an important milestone in the rollout of the new service.

“Wellways is one of Australia’s largest and most respected mental health, wellbeing and carer service providers, and we’re pleased to have them on board to lead delivery of the program,” Ms Mills said.

“The Better. Together. program will strengthen access to coordinated, multidisciplinary mental health care through general practice, ensuring people with severe and complex mental health needs receive the support they need closer to home.”

Wellways CEO Laura Collister said the organisation was looking forward to delivering the Better. Together. program and strengthening access to integrated mental health care.

“We’re delighted to be selected as lead contractor for this unique program and have the opportunity to bring an important service to people who may have missed out on getting the help they need,” Ms Collister said.

“It can be challenging for people to access support, particularly in regional areas, and we’re proud to help bring mental health care closer to home through the Better. Together. program.”

Over the coming months, Wellways will recruit staff, engage with local stakeholders and work with general practices in preparation for service commencement.

The Better. Together. program will establish multidisciplinary mental health team hubs in Wagga Wagga, Young, Griffith and Deniliquin, with services planned to be delivered through general practices across the Murrumbidgee region.

The Better. Together. program is funded by the Australian Government through the Primary Health Network Program.
