Skin Cancer and Melanoma
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Each year, skin cancers account for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers in the country. Most of these are caused by overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.
Types of Skin Cancer
The three main types of skin cancer are:
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
Melanoma – the most dangerous form of skin cancer
Early detection and intervention remain the most effective ways to reduce morbidity and improve survival.
