Approximately 1/5 Australians (1/4 who live in rural or remote Australia) will experience persistent pain that significantly impacts of their quality of life, somewhere in their lifetime. Previous treatments are up for questioning as rates of persistent pain continue to rise. An update in current pain neuroscience allows clinicians to improve their understanding of pain and broaden their approach to assessment and management of this problem.
