NSW pharmacists to vaccinate children under five from 2027

From 1 January 2027, pharmacists in NSW will be able to administer routine National Immunisation Program (NIP) vaccines to children under five years of age.

The expansion aligns with the Australian Government's extension of the NIP Vaccination in Pharmacy program and is expected to improve access, convenience and affordability for families, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

The expansion will not include:

• Children under five requiring catch-up vaccinations.

• Children who are immunocompromised.

Work is currently underway to support implementation, including:

• Pharmacist education and training.

• Referral pathways for child health and developmental checks.

• Public communication resources.

The NSW Pharmacist Vaccination Standards and Authority will be updated before the program commences.
