Did you know allied health can bill for case conferencing under the MBS?

Allied health practitioners can claim participation in case conferencing for clients across several specific MBS care pathways, including:

  • GP Chronic Condition Management Plan clients (previously EPC)

  • Mental Health Treatment Plan clients

  • Complex Neurodevelopmental Conditions and eligible disabilities

  • Eating Disorder Treatment and Management

Minimum attendance requirements

To claim, the case conference must:

  • Be organised and led by a GP

  • Include a minimum of three multidisciplinary team members (the GP plus at least two other providers)

Importantly, not all participants need to be MBS-eligible for you to claim, provided you are an eligible practitioner.

Modality

Case conferences can be delivered:

  • In person

  • Via telehealth (phone or video)

Billing details

  • MBS items for case conferencing are time-tiered

  • Items can generally be claimed once every three months, where clinically appropriate

  • Item numbers vary depending on the patient care pathway

Patient participation

The client may attend the case conference if appropriate, and can also have a support person present, such as a family member or carer.
