Clozapine in general practice

General Practitioners across the Murrumbidgee region play a vital role in the care and monitoring of consumers prescribed clozapine. This session will explore the benefits of clozapine, management of adverse effects, TGA protocols, and how GPs and the Community Mental Health Team can work collaboratively to improve patient outcomes.

Learning outcomes:
After attending this event, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role of clozapine in managing treatment-resistant schizophrenia

  • Identify common and significant side effects of clozapine

  • Understand the monitoring requirements for safe clozapine use

  • Recognise the risks of treatment interruption and the protocol for safe recommencement
