Tom’s LHAC chat

MPHN’s Community Engagement Coordinator Tom Parker (centre) with Mary Liston and Mick Broughan from Henty LHAC at the 2024 Henty Machinery Field Days.

September started off with the Corowa LHAC forum and it was great to see many of you there. I really enjoyed the presentation from the grants expert and hearing what all the different LHACs have been accomplishing. Thank you to Anne and the Corowa LHAC for putting on a great event and I look forward to seeing you all again at the next year’s forums.

I also attended MPHN’s quarterly Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting and provided an update on the proposed changes to the LHAC Chair sector teleconferences. It was great to hear input from MPHN’s community representatives.

Tom, Mick and Mary discussed the benefits of joining a Local Health Advisory Committee in the Country Lifestyle Pavilion.

The Wagga Wagga LHAC did an excellent job of organising their inaugural youth forum at the Wagga PCYC. This event was attended by Year 7 students from Wagga Wagga High School who met with exhibitors from a diverse cross section of health and community related services. Thank you to George, Leanne and the Wagga Wagga LHAC team for putting on a great event.

To round out an incredibly busy month I attended each day of the Henty Machinery Field Days, where MPHN had a stall providing information packs, health checks and vaccinations. I also had the privilege of doing a live interview with Mary and Mick from the Henty LHAC on the main stage in the Country Lifestyle Pavilion. Thanks to Mary and Mick for making yourselves available and having a chat.

October has included some community engagement at events such as the Junee community event organised by 54 reasons, the Gundagai Native Medicine Yarn and a Yarns on the Couch at Brungle. Thanks to Cheney, Peter and the entire Gundagai LHAC for organising these two great events.

Last but not least, congratulations to the Deniliquin LHAC for being named dual finalists in the 2024 MPHN Primary Healthcare Awards. I wish them the best of luck.

Thanks for the chat,
Tom.
