COVID-19 and Aged Care
Residents of aged care are at increased risk of COVID-19 infection and are more vulnerable to serious complications if they do become infected. Aged care staff and managers along with families and friends of older people need to be vaccinated to protect these most vulnerable members of our communities.
Prevent and prepare for COVID-19 in residential aged care
Residential aged care providers need to remain alert and prepared for a potential outbreak of COVID-19 at their facilities. For more information on how you can prevent and prepare for COVID-19, please click here.
Notification of positive COVID-19 cases and response for providers of aged care
If a staff member or resident becomes positive with COVID-19, or an exposure occurs at a facility, the provider must immediately:
notify the commonwealth through either the COVID-19 outbreak or exposure notification form located on the COVID-19 support portal, accessed through the My Aged Care portal, and
notify NSW Department of Health.
