Medicare Mental Health Centres consultation – Feedback and thank you!

Thank you to community members and health care providers who participated in consultations to help inform the development of Medicare Mental Health Centres in Young and Wagga Wagga. We appreciate your time and the contribution of your valuable experience into this process.

We had high quality engagement and feedback across each of the sessions provided which included:

Young:
Online session: 18 people
Face to face session: 15 people

Wagga Wagga:
Online session: 7 people
Face to face session: 16 people

There were several themes identified across each of the communities which MPHN and MLHD have considered in the development of our approach to establishing Medicare Mental Health Centres. These themes included: 

  • Mental health workforce capacity and capability

  • Itinerant workforce and culturally and linguistically diverse populations

  • Management of demand including wait times

  • Need for outreach to address at risk populations

  • Importance of location to ensure accessibility

  • Importance of strong and consistent community engagement and presence

  • Coordination of care and integrating with existing services

  • Streamlined referral processes

  • Importance of service navigation
