Cultural Awareness Training

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network is committed to ensuring that services delivered by our providers, and accessed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, are culturally safe. A component of this commitment is to provide opportunities for MPHN staff, Primary Healthcare providers and MPHN Commissioned service provider staff to access appropriate cultural safety training.

Our Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Manager can provide free cultural awareness support with an email, phone call or a practice visit.

These are the topics we can provide free training on:

  • Integrated Team Care (ITC) Program

  • MBS 715 Health Check

  • CTG PBS Co-Payment

  • Practice Incentive Program (PIP) Indigenous Health Incentive (IHI)

  • Asking the Question (Indigenous Identification)

  • Allied Health

  • Cultural Safety in Primary Care

  • Close the Gap Initiative

Contact our Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Manager directly to organise a visit in your practice.

Current training in the Murrumbidgee

MPHN has engaged the Coolamon Advisor Group to develop a locally specific cultural awareness training program.

The training examines past policies and their effects, intergenerational trauma, social determinants of health, and the national agreement on Closing the Gap. On completion of the training, participants will have an increased knowledge of First Nations’ history, culture and health, and have enhanced their skills in working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Participants will also complete the training with an increased knowledge of strategies and resources that can improve cultural safety within their organisation and their delivered services.

Keep an eye on our CPD events page for upcoming courses, or reach out to our Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Manager to register your interest.
