MLHD Overcoming Binge Eating online therapy program

The Overcoming Binge Eating (OBE) therapeutic group is a closed-group, 10-week online therapy program, based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E) which may help participants to reduce binge eating episodes as well as the severity of their symptoms. 

The group is facilitated by MLHD Senior Eating Disorder clinicians, including a dietitian and a social worker, both of whom are mental health professionals.

Participants will need to commit to attending the 10-week program. This is not a program that promotes weight loss interventions. 

The term four Overcoming Binge Eating (OBE) group will commence Thursday 17 October 2024 and will run weekly until Thursday 19 December 2024.

Clinician-only referrals to the group will be accepted until 5pm, Friday 12 October 2024. 

Criteria: 

·        18 years or older and Living in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) area. 

·        Must have episodes of binge eating (i.e., minimum of one episode per week or four per month).  May also have co-occurring compensatory behaviours (i.e., exercise, purging, restriction).

·        This may include those with a formal diagnosis of Binge Eating disorder (BED) or Bulimia Nervosa (BN). 

·        Access to a larger handheld audio-visual electronic device (equivalent to a tablet or laptop with camera) and a reliable internet connection.   

·        Medically stable and willing to be monitored by a doctor/GP, dietitian or mental health clinician as required.  

·        Participants must continue to attend medical appointments throughout the duration of the group (minimum one appointment during 10-week program).  

·        Not currently at low weight and actively losing weight.   

Referral process: 

Participants cannot self-refer to this program. MLHD will be accepting referrals for this program until 12 October 2024.
