Murrumbidgee Community Grants taking a break

The popularity of Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network’s (MPHN) Murrumbidgee Community Grants for various community activities supporting mental health and wellbeing in drought affected communities, has now seen the full allocation of $1.2 million exhausted, and as a result is taking a break.

MPHN CEO Melissa Neal said these activities have helped reach almost 25,000 people across the region since the Murrumbidgee Community Grants were launched in December last year.

“We have seen activities from group exercise, art classes, resilience workshops, and workforce training be carried out with a community grant and the benefits of these activities in helping to bring communities together and foster social connectedness will aid long term resilience and recovery,” Ms Neal said.

“Feedback I’ve received from across the region has been overwhelmingly positive and we are pleased to have been able to provide this opportunity for this community-led support for mental health and wellbeing.

“I’m pleased we have been able to deliver more than $1.2 million into our communities and we are reviewing funding allocations with the intention to open one final round of community grants in the new year. We expect this final round to be time limited with activities to be completed by 30 June 2020.

“Later this week we will be opening the Murrumbidgee Youth Grants, which will provide funding for activities for youth up to the age of 25 years,” she said.
