MPHN CEO Melissa Neal said preparing an annual report provides a humbling look at how MPHN is responding to the various health needs and recovery from a range of challenges.

“It’s been a very eventful 12 months, and recent events, such as drought, bushfires and COVID-19, present many additional challenges for our regional and rural communities,” Ms Neal said.

“Yet, despite these events we have been able to work collaboratively and respond rapidly to the needs of our communities.

“Fundamental to all our achievements has been our strong partnerships with various organisations, committees and our communities. Equally critical has been the dedicated, agile and passionate staff.”

Ms Neal said some of MPHN’s achievements during the past 12 months included:

  • The establishment of a region-wide communication and response protocol, enabling a coordinated cross-sector collaboration in response to suicide events and critical incidents.

  • Funding of nearly $1.5 million to support wellbeing and social connectedness in our drought and bushfire impacted communities, through various grant programs.

  • Provision of 40,000 mental health diaries to people across the region.

  • The securing of a telehealth grant for 85 of our 87 general practices to maintain or build upon existing telehealth systems to help them support patient care during a health pandemic.

  • Providing 44 Residential Aged Care Facilities across the region with Aged Care Scenario testing to assist in pandemic planning and preparedness in the event of an outbreak.
