More general practices now providing COVID-19 vaccinations
Another 13 general practices will commence giving COVID-19 vaccinations this week as part of the phased on-boarding of 70 practices across the Murrumbidgee region.
Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) Acting CEO Julie Redway said the additional practices providing COVID-19 vaccinations as means those eligible under Phase 1b of the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Vaccination rollout now have more options for where they can get their vaccine administered.
“From this week, eligible people in Junee, Corowa, Moama, Howlong, Tumut, Leeton, Temora and Finley will have access to local vaccinators,” Ms Redway said.
“For those people whose regular general practice is not administering the COVID-19 vaccination, you are able to access the vaccine from a Vaccination Hub which are located in Wagga Wagga, Gundagai, Young, Deniliquin and Griffith, or at another participating practice in your local community.
“Vaccinations are free, and if you have any concerns about your individual circumstances, we do recommend making time with your usual GP to discuss these.”
MPHN’s COVID-19 Pandemic Lead, Dr Alison Koschel said there has been high demand for vaccination appointments during the first week of the Phase 1b rollout.
“We know people are very keen to receive their vaccine with the week 1 general practices and the five Vaccination Hubs reporting they are receiving many enquiries and appointments book out quickly,” Dr Koschel said.
“It’s certainly encouraging to see this level of demand already and I would also ask people to be patient. There will be enough vaccines for everyone and as more general practices commence vaccinating over the coming few weeks, more opportunities to be vaccinated will open up.
“The Australian Government is leading a staged, gradual roll-out of the vaccine, with the most vulnerable populations prioritised.”
Those eligible for the vaccination under Phase 1b include healthcare workers currently employed and not included under Phase 1a; critical and high risk workers currently employed; people over 70 years of age; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over 55 years and people over 18 with an underlying medical condition, including disability.
