Supporting suicide prevention: community group funding available
Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) is pleased to announce the availability of funding dedicated to community groups focusing on suicide prevention.
The funding, provided by the Department of Health and Aged Care under the Targeted Regional Initiatives for Suicide Prevention initiative, aims to enhance the suicide prevention capability and capacity of community groups within the Murrumbidgee region.
Senior Manager Priority Populations Anita McRae said MPHN was committed to supporting local community groups in their efforts to prevent suicide.
“We know there are so many passionate, dedicated community groups in our region already doing everything they can to help support people who are going through challenging times,” Ms McRae said.
“This funding opportunity will empower these groups to implement evidence-based suicide-prevention activities. Successful applicants will also join a MPHN-facilitated Community of Practice which will provide a platform for networking, collaboration, and training for the community groups."
MPHN is inviting established or newly formed community groups within the Murrumbidgee region to apply. Eligible groups may include wellbeing action groups, mental health action groups, suicide prevention networks, or collaboratives.
The initiative aims to build capability and capacity to respond to suicidality within local communities, raise awareness of suicide prevention and aftercare services, and empower communities to adopt a preventative approach, reducing the risk of suicide.
Ms McRae said supporting groups actively engaged in suicide-prevention will contribute to a more resilient and connected broader community.
“By supporting activities that are community-driven and demonstrate long-term benefits, we’re aiming to ensure people have the support they need in the environments they're most comfortable in.”
Funding is available to support up to six eligible community groups. Activities are expected to be completed by 30 November 2024, with each successful group receiving $7000.
Submissions close 29 January 2024. For more information, visit mphn.org.au/eoi
