Murrumbidgee Aboriginal Health Consortium

The Murrumbidgee Aboriginal Health Consortium is a collaboration of local agencies working to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with the goal of increasing their life expectancy.

What does the Consortium do?

The Consortium meets regularly and is responsible for developing and implementing a three year action plan called the Murrumbidgee Aboriginal Health Consortium Plan.

The Plan focuses on collaboration and developing the capabilities of organisations and providers to improve accessibility, effectiveness, responsiveness and the cultural appropriateness of services to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people.

What does the Consortium focus on?

  • Mental health – prevention and early identification of at risk people

  • Chronic disease prevention – reducing smoking, diabetes and other chronic diseases

  • Maternal and child health – reducing smoking and substance use in pregnancy, improving parenting skills and antenatal care
