HPV self-collection: is your practice ready to support the choice?

Campaigns are commencing in 2024 to promote cervical screening and the self-collection option.

HPV self-collection is one of the best tools available to increase cervical screening participation and address disparities in screening.

The campaigns will target women and people with a cervix who are from First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse communities and patients with a disability.

We expect the campaigns will lead to increased demand for cervical screening and particularly the self-collect option, particularly as self-collection may be a more sensitive and acceptable option for under-screened patients.

Practices are encouraged to speak to their pathology labs and order self-collection swabs, so they are ready to offer their patients the choice.

National Cervical Screening Program – Healthcare provider toolkit

The Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC) has launched a nationwide campaign ‘HPV Self-Collection: Are YOU ready to support the choice?’ to raise awareness among health providers.

Clinicians seeking more information are invited to attend HPV Self-collection Webinar: Get the facts featuring Prof. Marion Saville, AM. During the webinar, the ACPCC promise to provide information on upcoming changes to the National Cervical Screening Program clinical guidelines, to ensure clinicians have the very latest information.

ACPCC also has CPD accredited online learning modules available as well as healthcare provider and consumer facing resources. More information is available at acpcc.org.au/self-collection-campaign.
