Accreditation practice pointer: Qualifications, education and training of healthcare practitioners
GP3.1 B GPs working in our practice are one or more of the following:
A vocationally registered (VR) GP
A medical practitioner on a pathway to general practice Fellowship
A general practice registrar under appropriate supervision from a qualified VR GP
Working under an approved workforce program
RACGP Standards for general practice, 5th edition.
Recruitment of recognised medical practitioners is challenging, especially in regional and rural areas. When GPs are not Fellowed or on a pathway to Fellowship, practices must ensure doctors can deliver appropriate care.
To meet the Criterion, practices must keep records of each GP’s qualifications. When practices have been unable to recruit recognised GPs, they must employ doctors who have the qualifications and training necessary to consult patients.
Practices might keep copies of job advertisements used to recruit GPs, as evidence of their efforts.
