Accreditation practice pointer: risk management

C3.2 D  Our practice has at least one team member who has the primary responsibility for leading risk management systems and processes.

RACGP Standards for general practice, 5th edition.

Practices need a sound risk management strategy to ensure quality healthcare is provided. This can be achieved by appointing practice team members to be responsible for risk management and complaints resolution. These roles can either be completed by either one team member or two separate team members. Other practice team members must be aware who is responsible for risk management.

The responsibilities for the roles must be documented in a position description. The designated team member(s) require the necessary instruction to perform their duties accordingly.

The general practice human resources policy could also include a risk strategy procedure.
