Accreditation practice pointer: quality improvement systems and processes

QI1.1 A Our practice has at least one team member who has the primary responsibility for leading our quality improvement systems and processes.

RACGP Standards for general practice.

General practices that engage in ongoing quality improvement support the delivery of optimum patient safety and care. Quality improvement activity is broad in that it encompasses the structures, systems and clinical care.

The Standards require that at least one team member is responsible for managing quality improvement, and that this is written into their position description. This team member must be educated appropriately on the management of quality improvement activity. If possible, general practices might create a quality improvement team made up of both clinical and administrative staff to ensure activity is maximised in all  systems and processes.
